Lot#: 174

DESCRIPTION: APW - Elgin, 21J Convertible model, Grade 72, 16S, 14K rose gold drum style box hinge HC recase with ornate engraving detail, reverse with a lakeside collonade and chateau set against a mountainous backdrop, front with monogram initials, gold cuvette engraved "W.A. Reinhard," correct white glass-enamel DS dial that friction fits to mvt via a canister style ring, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, raised gold jewel settings, gold train wheels, gold balance screws, ornate nickel damascene, s#607280. Gross weight of assembled watch 80.4 dwt (125.0 g). An excellent example of Elgin's top quality watch. A single run of 1000 serial numbers spanning 607001 to 608000 was blocked for Grade 72 production but based on known examples we believe the actual production was only approximately 450 made, as all examples we have observed have fallen neatly within only the 607001 to 607450 portion of this run. This indicates the likelihood that a bit over half of the blocked serial number range was never completed. CONDITION: Mvt: GRO...
CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, near mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, few small micro-fine scratches; dial near flawless with only an extremely faint short hl above seconds-register; excellent hands; case shows very little wear, no dents, small nick to upper shoulder of front, rear with small ding visible as ripple in reflection of interior surface but with negligible exterior visibility, excellent engraving detail, case shows no visual sign of having held another mvt but is presented as a recase as our consignor notes he paired it with this watch himself; tight bow, crown shows medium wear and small ridge break; good glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $3600 - $5000
